The chic Viceroy Zihuatanejo on Mexico’s Pacific coast has topped off a complete renovation of the resort’s beachside fine-dining Mexican-Mediterranean restaurant, La Marea, creating a sizzling new ambiance and guest experience.
“La Marea has undergone a dramatic transformation, emerging with a warmer, more social and engaging atmosphere created with everything from an ocean-themed color scheme and new furniture to a fantastic Bose sound system,” said General Manager Martin Kipping.
Guests now dine open-air to the sounds of the waves on a new wood deck at the sand’s edge, under a tanglewood and thatch palapa. The light-gray-blue chair cushions and walls recall the adjacent Pacific, while an array of international sounds emanate from the network of high-quality Bose speakers. New tables and chairs were designed in local wood and rattan, while the table tops are defined by the new white Villeroy & Boch China, accent glass plates with abstract blue designs by Arte de Vidrio and hurricane candle lamps. A solid wood communal table, located at the best vantage point to take in the open kitchen, is a bespoke dining spot for family dinners, special tasting events and socializing with other guests. A stone wall aesthetic feature is illuminated and warmed by lights. Paintings by local artists currently splash the walls with color, but the exhibitions will change regularly and feature a variety of media including jewelry.
La Marea Bar continues the restaurant’s light-blue-gray color scheme, wood and rattan furniture, and hurricane candle lamps, while adding a flat-screen HD TV for watching events and a patio area for enjoying the bar in the outdoors.
At La Marea, Executive Chef Jose Paco Isordia Dorantes serves gourmet cuisine marrying Mediterranean and Mexican cuisines for lunch and dinner. His menu is rich in techniques and traditions from several Mexican states as well as the Mediterranean, is spiced with innovation, and emphasizes the area’s exceptional bounty of freshly caught seafood, choice produce and local farm-raised meats. Dishes are crafted to draw out natural flavors, and then enhanced by the restaurant’s prime collection of artisanal olive oils and the smoky essence of the wood grills.
