TRUCHARD ESTATE VINEYARD RELEASES 2009 MERLOT & CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Truchard Estate Vineyard, today announced the release of its 2009 Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon to select U.S. markets. These new vintages, like previous ones, are 100 percent grown, bottled and produced at Truchard Vineyard.

“The 2009 is one of the best Merlots that we have ever produced!” said Sal De Ianni, winemaker for Truchard Vineyards. “This is a big wine offering floral aromas, a core of jammy flavors and firm tannins that will continue to develop for the next 10-15 years.”

Contrasting the two new releases, De Ianni continued by saying that the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is just as impressive with “a beautiful “Bordeaux style” courtesy of the long, cooler Carneros growing season offering complex scents of raspberry, cherry and cedar; with layers of fruit flavor and spice in the mouth.”

As far as the vintage, a dry winter and spring in 2009 made for a good harvest of exceptionally small berries. While the record rains in mid-October forced a quick picking of the grapes that were fully ripe in the field. The Truchard Carneros estate also played a role in influencing the vintage with 380 acres of hills and valleys, which contain a variety of soils:  clay, shale, sandstone, limestone, volcanic ash and rock.  The combination of terroir, geology, and marine-moderated temperatures, provides ideal conditions for wine-growing.

About Truchard Vineyards

Truchard Vineyards is a family-owned winery located in the Carneros region of the Napa Valley. It was established in 1974, when the Truchards bought a 20 acre abandoned prune orchard, transformed it into a vineyard and began selling the fruit to a local winery. Through hard work and dedication they developed a reputation as one of the outstanding vineyards in the area. The Truchards now sell grapes to more than 20 premiere Napa Valley wineries and grow 10 different grape varieties, making it one of the most diverse estate vineyards in California.

In 1989, the Truchards began making wine for themselves using only their estate-grown fruit. These wines are hand-crafted using traditional winemaking techniques and exemplify the high quality fruit of the Truchard Estate Vineyard.
