Get ready to raise a glass to women in brewing! Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant (Iron Hill), the most award-winning brewery east of the Mississippi, is celebrating Women’s History Month with Pink Boots Society, an organization dedicated to advancing the careers of women in the brewing industry, with the release of a new beer, Suffragette City Berliner Weisse.
Suffragette City is a delightful Berliner Weisse with copious amounts of marionberry puree and a sprinkle of sage. Its tasting notes include blackberry, earthy sweetness, and lemony tartness, with a touch of Ziggy Stardust magic. They’ve kettle-soured this wheat beer overnight with natural live cultures from Greek yogurt in between boils. With an ABV of 3.7%, Suffragette City has a refreshing finish and a festive, colorful hue, making it the perfect springtime beer.
Crafted by talented female brewers at Iron Hill, including Columbia, SC Head Brewer Brittany Jackson, Hershey, PA Brewer Emily Siddal, and Exton, PA Lead Brewer Avery Hookey, Suffragette City will be released on draft at all Iron Hill locations on Thursday, April 11. It is also one of the many new releases from brewers around the world participating in the annual Pink Boots Collaboration Brew Day in celebration of International Women’s Day. A portion of each pint sold will be donated to the Pink Boots Society.
Founded in 2007, the Pink Boots Society was established to further the careers of women and nonbinary people in the fermented beverage and alcohol industry, through education. Although a male-dominated industry, women have brewed beer for thousands of years, dating back to the Mesopotamian Era, and both Iron Hill and the Pink Boots Society embrace the talent of women in this industry. In the spirit of empowering women in the brewing industry, a portion of the proceeds from Suffragette City Berliner Weisse will directly support the Pink Boots Society’s mission of supporting women in their brewing careers.
Iron Hill has a long history of supporting women in brewing, hiring its first woman brewer in 2005, and has continued to hire talented women in brewing to support its reputation of producing the most award-winning craft beers in the region.
