SOPHIA’S, A MODERN TAKE ON AN ITALIAN-AMERICAN SUPPER CLUB, BRINGS AWARD-WINNING CHICAGO CHEF TO AUSTIN
Italian-American classics complemented by Italian sparkling program
Sophia’s, a modern take on a classic Italian-American supper club, will bring a sexy and sophisticated dining experience to the downtown Austin scene with its opening early next month. Located at 500 W. Sixth St., in the former Bess Bistro space, the restaurant and lounge will offer signature dishes complemented by an expertly curated wine and beverage program.
Developed by BDG Hospitality Group, a Chicago-based group with more than 20 years of experience owning and operating popular dining and nightlife destinations, Sophia’s will serve the award-winning cuisine of Executive Chef Mark Sparacino, a powerhouse chef who brings a wealth of knowledge with previous experience as the Chef and Owner at Prosecco Ristorante in Chicago.
Sophia’s menu will marry family recipes with contemporary flair to serve up familiar Italian dishes and libations with refined presentation. The menu will be broken down into antipasti, salads, house-made and imported pasta selections, signature entrées, side dishes and desserts. Standouts will include the Crudo with fresh market fish, chili pepper pearls, orange and micro salad; the Orecchiette Tartufate with cremini mushrooms, asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes, black truffle cream, shaved Parmigiano-Reggiano and white truffle oil; and the Whole Roasted Fish with lemon, fresh herbs and breadcrumbs. On the sweet side, highlights include the Spumoni Bomb, the Limoncello Tart and a daily cookie selection.
Designed to reflect the sophisticated and indulgent ambiance of the venue, the beverage program at Sophia’s will feature unique takes on Italian cocktails, house-made liqueurs and an extensive selection of wines. The wine list includes more than 100 labels from France, Napa Valley and Italy with an emphasis on Italian sparkling. Cocktail highlights include house-made vermouths, barrel-aged cocktails, a unique selection of Amaro, and the sure-to-be summer hit the La Rosa, made with vodka, pink grapefruit liqueur, strawberry, fresh citrus and prosecco.
The 3,700 square-foot restaurant includes a bar and lounge area, an open dining room with intimate dining coves and an upstairs covered terrace. The speakeasy styling cues are combined with modern accents to create an inviting, posh atmosphere. Rich leather, plush velvet, and designer lighting effortlessly blend with custom artwork and an antique European pewter bar to strike the perfect balance between old and new.
Sophia’s will be open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday and will feature an intimate cocktail lounge and late night bites through Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
