Something New is Brewing in Harvard Square

Beat Brew Hall Set to Debut This September, Bringing a Vibrant Neighborhood Beer Hall Experience to Cambridge,
MA with Live Music, Bar Games and More

Something New is Brewing in Harvard SquareIn September 2018, the team behind Boston’s beloved Beehive in the South End opens Beat Brew Hall, introducing a modern yet authentic beer hall experience in the heart of Cambridge’s Harvard Square neighborhood. Located at 13 Brattle Street in Cambridge, MA, the 360-seat, 9,000 square-foot gathering space pays homage to the longstanding traditions and convivial beer hall culture found throughout Europe, while celebrating the city’s local art, culture, food, and community.

Co-Owners, Jack Bardy, Bill Keravuori and Jennifer Epstein transformed the space, formerly home to neighborhood haunt, Beat Brasserie, to create a casual yet vibrant community gathering space where friends, neighbors, and visitors alike can convene, interact and inspire together.  The lively, friendly atmosphere, filled with reclaimed wood, exposed build lighting, and down-to-earth design will be energized by a regular schedule of live music, bar games, community activities and of course an exciting, approachable food, beer and beverage program.

Guests at Beat Brew Hall are greeted by the 30-seat bar offering a robust selection of both local and international craft brews, while large communal picnic tables line the main dining room for enjoying the kitchen’s classic beer hall fare.  A separate backroom bar and lounge area will be unveiled at a later date, where a performance stage will serve as the focal point for live music, readings and other programming, and timeless bar games such as shuffleboard and billiards create the quintessential Harvard Square hangout.

Behind the bar, the extensive beer program features a variety of craft brews sourced from across the region and globe, with over 24 on draft – from Mikkeller (Denmark) and Hill Farmstead (Vermont), to Boulevard Brewing (Missouri) and Clown Shoes (Massachusetts) – in addition to a curated list available by the bottle and can.  A selection of signature cocktails are prepared with fresh, seasonal syrups and shrubs made in-house, including Evil Spirit with Plantation Pineapple Rum, Demerara Simple Syrup, Bitters, and Lime, and Spotted Cow with Silver Tequila, Peloton Mezcal, Sherry, Cinnamon, and Cranberry Bitters; along with wine and additional spirited beverages on tap. Guests can also enjoy Beat Brew Hall’s rotating liquored-up slushies, and large-format punch bowls available for groups of four or more.

The playful, approachable menu, created by The Beehive’s Executive Chef James Lyons (formerly of The Publican, Chicago) features composed, classic beer hall-style dishes crafted from farm-fresh ingredients with American BBQ influences that are friendly to both meat eaters and vegetarians alike. Lyons’ sharable snacks for the table include Togarashi Popcorn; Grilled Chicken Wings; Hot Smoked Salmon with Pickles;  BBQ Carrots with House Ranch; along with brick-oven flatbreads such as Crispy Duck with EggJalapeno, Scallions and Mozzarella; and Brussels Sprouts with Bacon Jam and Smoked Cheddar; and flavorful large plates include Smoked Brisket served with Potato Salad, Slaw and Peach BBQ Sauce; Slow Roast Pork Shoulder with White Grits and Apple Cider Jus; andFarm Chicken dressed with Fixin’s (available half and whole); in addition to a selection of salads, sandwiches and burgers, such as the signature Cheeseburger Deluxe topped with American Cheese and The Works; as well as the Tofu Banh Mi with Soy & Shitake Marinated Tofu, Pickled Vegetables, and Aioli.  Lyons also offers a half rack of BBQ St. Louis Ribs to be enjoyed as an appetizer, or as an entrée with the addition of Brew Hall sides. An expansive kid’s menu features options like Chicken Dinos, PB&J, and Pizza, while desserts like Coconut Cream Pie in a Jar and Chocolate Pudding Crunch ends every meal on a sweet note.
