Slipstream Opens in Washington, D.C.
Washington D.C.’s second Slipstream location.
Designed by local firm //3877, the new cafe features a marriage of modernity and refined details and mirrors the unique coffee-to-cocktails concept for which the establishment is known. The design team included many of the beloved details featured in the original location, such as wood-paneled ceilings and copper pendants, but is a departure with regard to the space’s flow. Customers here are directed by two concise paths, allowing those who wish to order take out or on-the-go refreshments to do so with ease, while those who choose to dine in-house are accommodated with a dedicated eat-in section. Creating a separate, yet connected space to satisfy the restaurant’s two-prong approach to dining was accomplished by a sleek modern counter, which alternates in material to signal its purpose; the ordering station is crafted with wood, while the pick-up location is distinguished by its stone materiality. The seated portion of the restaurant is defined by a hand-crafted bar, a tall communal table, and a well-illuminated ‘funk wallcovering.’
Providing a distinct aesthetic that easily translates from day to night, from casual to formal, the restaurant offers a warm, welcoming locale for one of Washington DC’s most upcoming neighborhoods.
