Richard Caring, British businessman and restaurateur who owns many of London’s most fashionable restaurants, the globally renowned private members’ club, Annabel’s, and is a major shareholder in Soho House group, will launch the famed Sexy Fish in Miami as its first international location, in Brickell, the city’s hottest neighborhood.
Sister restaurant Sexy Fish London, located in Berkeley Square in the heart of Central London, opened in 2015 and draws a crowd as stylish as its Mayfair address. The Miami outpost will be even more opulent, complete with incredible artworks by world renowned artist, Damien Hirst, and 26 bespoke fish lamps by internationally acclaimed Frank Gehry.
Designed in collaboration with Martin Brudnizki Design Studio and Caring, the restaurant will feature show-stopping, glamorous interiors inspired by the style and sophistication of a mid-century brasserie and motifs of the ocean. Outfitted with coral leather seating and high gloss tables atop illuminated agate floors, Sexy Fish Miami will bring a sense of theater and escapism through striking pieces from Damien Hirst, including 10 unique sculptures and grand frieze relief that adorns two walls. Additional interior features include a magnificent fish tank designed by SeaVisions with live coral and a colorful assortment of tropical fish, stretching across an entire wall inside the Private Dining Room.
The ocean motif continues throughout the space with 10 feet tall mermaid sculptures and colored glass mosaics incorporating over eight million hand-assembled pieces depicting sea-themed scenes. Guests can further find magical interiors in the women’s restroom which features onyx sinks sitting atop mermaid tails, whilst a large onyx octopus hand carved by a stone mason from Italy can be found in the men’s bathroom.
Chef Director Bjoern Weissgerber will serve a diverse menu inspired by the seas of Asia, with a focus on Japan, in the hedonistic surrounds of the glittering restaurant. Sexy Fish Miami will retain the signature dishes of the original Sexy Fish such as Duck Salad, Smoked Tuna Belly, Crispy Eringi Mushroom, Black Cod, and King Crab and Bone Marrow. These classics will be blended with the addition of new exclusive dishes and bold, seasonally-inspired flavors overseen by Weissgerber, such as the Sexy Gold Fish & Crispy Caviar featuring marinated gold-flake sea bass finished on the robata and served with caviar.
Accompanying the menus will be a carefully selected wine and Champagne list and theatrical cocktails to surprise and delight. Complete with a pink onyx top and teal high stools, the destination bar will boast an ample Dom Perignon and Opus One selection coupled with wines sourced locally from the US. Using innovative techniques, the hard-to-resist drinks list will offer unusual cocktails based around the idea of two flavors, with signatures including Elderflower & Yuzu, Chocolate & Wine, Lime & Meringue, and Raspberry & Yogurt. Sexy Fish Miami will also serve comprehensive collections of agave spirits featuring exceptional tequilas, splendid mezcals and other distilled delights, sourced from distilleries across Mexico.
