One-Million Meals Donated, Consumers to Spread the Word through Facebook
The issue of hunger continues to sweep the nation, but Schwan’s Consumer Brands, Inc. is joining forces with Feeding America to help fight back.
Today, Schwan’s Consumer Brands kicks off its campaign with a one-million meal* donation to Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief organization. Consumers are then invited to spread the word through Facebook posts. The campaign runs until Nov. 30, 2013.
“Partnering with Feeding America, Schwan’s Consumer Brands aims to bring to the forefront the reality that millions of families across the country struggle with hunger,” said Bob Waldron, president, Schwan’s Consumer Brands. “Each new Facebook post through the program will provide a platform for friends and fans to spread the word about Feeding America, helping to place the spotlight on a plight that we can ill afford to ignore.”
This is how the program works: Schwan’s Consumer Brands will have a common tab on the Facebook walls for its Freschetta, Red Baron, Tony’s, Edwards and Mrs. Smith’s brands. When consumers click on the tab, they will find several pre-written posts that they can re-post to their own personal walls. These posts will salute Feeding America and its mission with a small infographic highlighting Feeding America’s work.
Each brand’s Facebook tab will feature a counter that will tally up the total contribution of meals to date** and will also display a running ticker listing the names of all the consumers who’ve made a post in the past day. Every time a consumer makes a post, his or her name will be placed back on the ticker for that day. Additionally, each Facebook tab will feature videos, photography and infographics about Feeding America.
The Schwan Food Company, the parent company of Schwan’s Consumer Brands, has supported some 57 food banks in 25 states and has given more than 1.6 million pounds of food in the past year. In addition, employees at several company locations nationwide volunteer at their local food banks and agencies, as well as have food and fund drives for Feeding America member food banks.
In 2012, Feeding America member Second Harvest Heartland, one of the largest, most innovative and efficient food banks in the United States, recognized Schwan’s as a “Hunger Hero” because of its food donations and commitment in the fight against hunger.
*$1 helps provide nine meals secured by Feeding America on behalf of local food banks. Donation total reflects meals donated by Schwan’s Consumer Brands, Inc. Maximum donation of $111,112.
