The Sandman Hotel, Santa Rosa’s favorite roadside hotel is thrilled to announce the 50th anniversary of the property this summer. To mark this milestone, The Sandman is hosting a spectacular 70’s themed pool party on Saturday, August 24th, and the entire community is invited to join in the festivities.
The 50th celebration promises to be a blast from the past, featuring DJ Z spinning disco favorites alongside some delectable 70’s inspired snacks and cocktails; festive games and crafts for all ages, and summer lodging specials.
The Sandman has been a staple in the community since it opened as a Mission-style motel in the early 1970’s, providing travelers with a comfortable and welcoming place to stay. Over the years, it has become more than just a roadside hotel; it has become a home away from home for countless visitors. Well-known in Sonoma County for providing a roomy, comfortable place to sleep that’s near the area’s best wineries and breweries, dining options, and outdoor activities, this bespoke Santa Rosa hotel is proud of making it to this 50 year milestone.

The Sandman’s first dramatic transformation was unveiled in May 2017, only to be forced to close five months later due to the devastating Tubbs Fire, which claimed homes and hotels in nearby neighborhoods in Santa Rosa and caused smoke damage to more than half of its 135 rooms. Within a few weeks, however, The Sandman was fully restored; when it reopened, it housed local residents who were displaced from their homes due to the fire. Two years later, The Sandman faced another challenge: the COVID-19 pandemic, which dramatically reduced occupancy rates at all U.S. hotels, forcing many of them to close. The Sandman remained open and was a popular destination due to the introduction of a Summer Night event series aimed at locals who were looking for an escape close to home.
Highlights of The Sandman’s recent multi-million dollar renovation which was completed last October – just in time for this milestone anniversary – include newly remodeled guest rooms (with spacious walk-in showers and fully equipped kitchenettes); a revamped pool bar menu (with local wine, craft beer, and specialty cocktails); new murals inspired by Ty Williams; a newly remodeled on-site fitness center (with Peloton fitness equipment, weights, kettlebells, and more); and a brand new outdoor Wellness Dome for yoga sessions, meditation activities, and more.
