Top Five Reasons to Go Local with San Diego Restaurant Week!
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20TH TO SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH, 2015
SAN DIEGO. Calif. – For EIGHT DAYS ONLY, September 20th – 27th, San Diego Restaurant Week, presented by Your San Diego County Lexus Dealer, will CELEBRATE LOCAL by partnering with local distributors, farmers, vintners, brewers, fishermen and MORE in order to bring local fare straight to your plates at over 180 restaurants. Why go local? We have paired with five of our participating restaurants to answer just that.
1) Local products taste better!
“Sourcing local produce and meats gives fresher more nutritious and flavorful dishes. The closer the farm, the longer the produce is allowed to ripen naturally on the vine, without gasses and other factory farming methods used after shipping, that reduce flavor and nutritional value.” – Executive Chef Brent Hersant, GARAGE Kitchen + Bar.
2) Eating local products keeps us in touch with the seasons.
“Access to the freshest, local and seasonal ingredients is the cornerstone of our culinary philosophy here at Herringbone, without it we have nothing. We work with local purveyors not only because we want to serve our guests the freshest, best seafood, but also because it’s the right thing to do-for the environment and for our local economy.” – Chef Jordan Davis, Herringbone La Jolla.
3) Purchasing local products supports your local economy.
“We’re happy to be able to share local with our guests as when restaurants support local purveyors and farms the money spent buying those goods stays in the community.” – Dan Schreiber, Del Mar Rendezvous
4) Utilizing local products benefits the environment.
“Eating local produce minimizes the amount of energy and potential pollution associated with its transport. Choosing to create dishes for our guests that are from our local neighbors is an easy choice and it gives us a connection to our communities and the seasons.” -Chef Chad White, Comun
5) Using local products creates a sense of community.
“When you have the opportunity to look your farmer in the eye, trust is established. We firmly believe that when you know where your ingredients come from, you can better monitor their quality. We also source locally because we are committed to supporting the well-being of our local producers”. -The Red Door
To launch the “Celebrate Local” theme, San Diego Restaurant Week will host an exclusive Launch Party featuring premier food and beverages from our local neighborhoods on Saturday, September 12th at Go Green Agriculture. This September guests will also have the chance to Give Local as SDRW and Sysco join forces with the “Food for Kids Campaign” to provide food to kids who go hungry throughout the year. Guests simply have to post a photo of their meal while dining, tag the participating restaurant, and use the Hashtag #Food4Kids and Sysco will donate $1 for every post during the event.
September 20th through the 27th ditch the dirty dishes and join over 150,000 fellow diners as we celebrate San Diego’s thriving culinary scene and the homegrown, local businesses that provide us with the produce and products we love with SDRW! Dinner will be served as a three-course, prix-fixe menu for just $20, $30, $40 or $50 per person and lunch will be served as a two-course prix-fixe menu for only $10, $15 or $20 per person. Tickets are not necessary for this delectable week of discounted dining, but reservations are recommended!
