Sales Trends for National Bourbon DayAccording to the Distilled Spirits Council, bourbon was up 6.7% in volume for 2017. As brown spirits continue to trend up in the U.S., bourbon remains among the biggest drivers. for National Bourbon Day on June 14Drizly’s sales data reveals trends among enthusiasts who purchase the venerable American spirit online, on the world’s biggest adult beverage e-commerce platform:

 

  • Bourbon is biggest. So far in 2018 bourbon has accounted for 38.44% of whiskey sold on the Drizly platform. Scotch accounts for 16.15%., Irish 9.94%, rye 7.28%, Canadian 5.79% and Japanese 1.72%
  • Sweet home…Kentucky. 95% of all bourbon purchased has come from Kentucky distilleries, while 5% are from other states, despite the rapid growth of bourbon production outside of the state nearly synonymous with the spirit.
  • Bourbon by age. Drizly shoppers ages 20-29 spend around $33 per bottle, ages 30-49 spend $35-$37, and ages 50+ spend $38+ on average.
  • We’re all loving Bourbon, but NYC loves it more. New Yorkers buy the most bourbon at 24-28% of all orders on Drizly vs. a 20% average across the rest of the U.S.
