James-Beard Award-winning bar man Chris Hannah, Co-owner of Jewel of the South in New Orleans, has recently unveiled a brand-new cocktail menu at the French Quarter gem.
The new cocktail menu — rolling out on Repeal Day, Thursday, December 5, 2019 — highlights seasonal herbs and spices including cardamom, allspice and nutmeg, while also staying true to Hannah’s classical technique and meticulous execution. New libations include Colts Neck Crusta — Laird’s Jersey Lightning apple brandy, Appleton Reserve, maraschino, lemon, Curacao and notes of baking spice and American Orange Punch — serving 2-3 people, this favorite cocktail since the Battle of New Orleans features local red navel sweet oranges rolled into sherbet with a barrel selection of Elija Craig bourbon, porter beer and nutmeg. Other new cocktails include Lost on the River — Hanna’s version of the classic cobbler with Manzanilla sherry, Pedro Ximenez sherry, and lime-ginger cordial; Christmas Springs — a nod to Christmas in warmer climates featuring Caravedo pisco, pineapple, cardamom, mango cordial and Peychaud’s bitters; and Winter Waltz — a tribute to the Frank Sinatra holiday tune with a combination of rye, apple brandy, Averna and allspice dram. An off-menu special of Wassail — the warming mulled cider cocktail will be available through the season and, of course, Hannah’s signature cocktails like the Brandy Crusta, Jewel Sazerac and Night Tripper are still on offer. Revelers can pair these boozy concoctions with an array of bites crafted by Executive Chef Philip Whitmarsh.
