SAN ANTONIO (JULY 27) – Downtown San Antonio has a new resident: Nectar Wine Bar and Ale House. Modeled after more traditional wine bars found internationally, Nectar adds to San Antonio’s growing roster of culinary and libation destinations.
Owners, Rachel and Rob Stephens, originally from San Diego, moved to San Antonio to work with Boeing. After evaluating the metro area, both saw tremendous potential in the market and decided on launching Nectar.
“We’ve traveled the world, tasting and studying wines,” said Rob. “Our research showed that San Antonio consumers were demanding high-end products and services to complement their evolving lifestyles. You can see this in the Pearl development, Southtown, Stone Oak and other areas. So as wine lovers and students of the industry, we decided the time was right to build this concept.”
Nectar is located at 214 Broadway, a stretch that has seen rapid development over the past three years. Nectar is short drive, bike ride or walk for many downtown-area residents and workers.
“Our location is ideal for area residents and workers of the downtown area. People can visit for a relaxing glass of wine or make an evening of it by selecting a bottle and a few of our savory menu items,” said Rachel.
Food will vary and include small items, including Charcuterie, Fromage and Crudite. Rachel created the eclectic menu and based the ingredients on the flavor profiles of the wines carried. “The plates are elegant in their simplicity and work well as complements to your wine or as stand-alone meals,” she said.
A formal opening celebration is planned for September, but until then, Rachel and Ron plan on refining the concept and ensuring that early visitors have a one-of-a-kind experience.
“San Antonio is in a great position,” said Rob. “There is a wealth of talent here making the food and beverage industry one of the country’s hottest. We know that we cannot rest on our laurels. Nectar will be the standard for wine bars in this market. That is our commitment to this great city.”
