McGah Family Cellars is pleased to introduce Scarlett Zinfandel, the inaugural vintage of its 100% Estate Grown Zinfandel and Petite Syrah blend. This expressive Rutherford wine is the newest creation from Mike Smith, one of Napa Valley’s new superstar winemakers. The Scarlett Zinfandel embodies Smith’s purist approach to winemaking, showcasing the terroir of the vineyards and encouraging the fruit to fully reveal itself in the wine. Scarlett Zinfandel will have a limited 47-case production. The McGah family is most notably known for founding the Oakland Raiders in the 1960s, and maintained their ownership of the team until 2005.
The 65-acre McGah Family Vineyards are located in Rutherford, an appellation widely considered to be one of the premier sources of Napa Valley fruit. Dark purple to the rim, Scarlett Zinfandel features captivating aromas of briary dark fruit, thyme, peppery Petite Syrah and pure Zinfandel spice. This rich and full-bodied wine is an ideal complement to hearty fare, but has an amazingly supple mid palate framed by ample tannin and structure.
“Our vision for Scarlett was to create a big, bold red blend that would pay homage to the adventurousness that Zinfandel and Petite Syrah are known for, while tempering that intensity with subtle layers of complexity beneath the surface,” said Mike Smith, winemaker, McGah Family Cellars. “The end result is a refined and effortless vintage that will age beautifully and pair brilliantly with classic, rich flavors all year round.”
The 2012 Scarlett Zinfandel retails for $38.00. For more information or to purchase, please visit McGah Family Cellars’ web site at www.mcgcellars.com.
