Lucha Libre Brought the Action to NRA Weekend
Exciting evening hosted by Bay Valley Foods, Mission Foodservice and Sysco.
Chicago, IL (June 8, 2015) – More than 200 guests joined Bay Valley Foods, Mission Foodservice and Sysco on Saturday, May 16, 2015 for ¡Espectacular! Lucha Libre Dos, one of the most thrilling events of National Restaurant Show week. The party and networking opportunity brought together foodservice professionals from all channels of the industry, including major restaurant chain operations, distribution and non-commercial outlets.
Trendy Wicker Park restaurant Chop Shop was transformed from a deli into a street fare extravaganza, as Bay Valley Foods, Mission Foodservice and Sysco found a unique way to showcase their offerings to the operator community. Agency partner CSSI Marketing + Culinary created a bevy of Hispanic and Latin food and cocktails, allowing guests to taste the manufacturers’ products in delicious menu applications. Tempting hors d’oeuvres were passed throughout the evening, guests helped themselves to authentic sweets, and action stations served up tasty rajas and mole tamales alongside made-to-order feijoada and picanha tacos.
But the main event was in the back room, where a full-sized wrestling ring was set up to accommodate the action. Capoeira martial artists dazzled the crowd and kept the energy going between three exciting lucha libre matches, featuring professional athletes from Chicago-based wrestling company Resistance Pro.

- Round 3, invitees cheered on the wrestler corresponding to the color of the raffle ticket they’d picked up earlier in the evening. In this extreme battle royale, Matt Classic was declared victorious over The Iron Demon and Scotty Young—and Sam Vega of Plum Market won a trip to Mexico!
