LIBBEY LOVE STORY INSPIRES PUNCH BOWL TABLESCAPE

Art in Food Tablescape Design Mixes Libbey Vintage and Contemporary Glassware

Libbey Tablescape Celebrates Famous Punch BowlThe legendary Libbey® Punch Bowl inspired an intimate tablescape by Libbey Inc. at the Toledo Museum of Art’s “Art in Food” exhibit October 21–30. The tablescape featured an artistic mix of Libbey’s most elegant vintage and newest glassware alongside its dinnerware and flatware. The tablescape celebrated the love story of founder, Edward Drummond Libbey, and his wife, Florence Scott Libbey. Mr. Libbey, a founder of the museum, was a major benefactor along with his wife.

The display vignette, titled “Sweethearts’ Dinner,” captured the love story of the Libbeys using Renaissance and Prism glassware from the Master’s Reserve® collection, Syracuse® China and vintage pieces. The mix of soft colors and metallics paid homage to the “Florence Rose,” a design feature inspired by Mrs. Libbey’s love of pink roses. The Florence Rose sits in the center circle of the Libbey Punch Bowl and was frequently embedded in many of the company’s legacy glassware designs.

The Libbey Punch Bowl was unveiled at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair and has been part of the museum’s collection since 1946. It has come to symbolize the craftsmanship, beauty and ingenuity of American enterprise. “Sweethearts’ Dinner” also celebrates Libbey’s place as one of the largest tableware suppliers in the world, providing a palette for the creations of chefs, sommeliers, cicerones and bartenders alike.
