In sharp contrast to industry norms, Lavu restaurant point of sale system continues to add customization options with a Menu Icon Generator and checkout screen configuration system. Lavu encourages development on their platform, offering an open API for developers and peripheral extensions to meet functionality requirements specific to the restaurant and hospitality industries.
New customization features for Lavu iPad POS expand upon the system’s flexibility, allowing features and tools to be tailored to meet the specific needs of hospitality businesses. New features include the ability to design a custom menu interface and customize checkout screen functionality. These new features join existing functions in Lavu, including in-app color scheme, background, and font selections, as well as a table layout editor.
Lavu has always been open to outside development and integrations. The well-used Lavu API, their open Application Platform Interface, allows users to tailor their point of sale feature set to meet the needs specific to the wide variety of restaurant industry business types.
Developers can expand on the point of sale system, or build their own peripheral components. Kurt Stump, owner of SloCo Pasty Company in San Luis Obispo, California used the open API to develop a menu board for his business. “Lavu’s API made it very simple to connect to the database and their examples and instructions were the best I’ve ever seen for connecting to an API of any sort,” said Stump.
Loyal Tree, another add-on developed using Lavu’s API, integrates a comprehensive loyalty program directly into Lavu and is already available to Lavu customers. Reporting tools and social media integration are other examples of POS extensions which used the open development platform.
Lavu includes a Language Packs feature which lets customers enter any language into the user interface. This feature has been popular due to Lavu’s worldwide user base. Lavu iPad POS is currently used in over 80 countries on six continents.
Two new features from Lavu Inc. unveiled this week allow additional customization to improve workflow for restaurants, bars and nightclubs, and quick serve business types.
Menu Icon Generator (MIG) creates color-coded easy-to-read icons for menu items, which are displayed on the iPad. Names, item descriptions, and recipes can be added to menu items, as well as important notes to identify vegan items or to display food allergy warnings. This visual aid minimizes staff confusion and gives the iPad POS a sleek and stylish, uniform look.
The lower Payment Panel Editor for the checkout screen lets users choose their payment types and functions. Unnecessary buttons can be removed, making the checkout process faster and preventing potential mistakes. This also improves workflow by minimizing the number of taps to get to custom payment types, which can be added right to the checkout screen.
MIG icons and customized payment panels allow staff to quickly select the correct items every time, reducing the need for supervisor assistance, and giving a smooth, fast workflow from order initiation to checkout. Lavu iPad POS provides customization options not found in legacy point of sale systems and gives restaurant owners the tools they need to manage their business.
