A couple of years ago, Austin-based chef Nanaz Ahmadi set up a Kickstarter page to raise money to start a food truck serving authentic Middle Eastern kabobs. Despite the current wave of Islamophobia, Kickstarter projects with a connection to the Middle East often do well – a film about Syrian refugees is a current ‘Staff Pick! Ahmadi’s truck is now renowned the best eatery in Texas, showing that the U.S. public is equally non-prejudiced when it comes to food – a man’s brain can be xenophobic, but his stomach definitely cannot!
