Bay Area Native Takes the Reigns of San Francisco’s Must-Visit Destination for Modern Cantonese Cuisine
Hakkasan San Francisco, the 10,000-square-foot fine dining destination, is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles Chen as general manager. Chen, who is an expert when it comes to the San Francisco culinary scene, has several years of fine dining experience in the Bay Area. Hakkasan offers modern Cantonese cuisine, including dim sum, extensive wine and sake programs, late-night dining, and the Ling Ling under the auspices of Michelin- starred chef Ho Chee Boon.
“We are incredibly excited to promote Charles Chen to general manager of Hakkasan San Francisco. His diligent work ethic and ambition to establish lasting relationships with guests and industry locals alike makes him a natural fit, and he is committed to our philosophy of providing excellent service and the highest quality food and beverages,” said Omar Gutierrez, Vice President of U.S. Restaurants for Hakkasan Group. “The restaurant and its staff will benefit from Charles’ knowledge of the Bay Area and beyond as we continue to thrive in the San Francisco market.”
Situated on the second floor of the iconic One Kearny building, the 170-cover restaurant boasts a main dining area affording guests a view of bustling Market and Geary streets through soaring arched windows, punctuated by latticed “cages” for a sense of privacy. Hakkasan also features a 25-seat V-shaped bar, two private dining rooms, and a 50-seat Ling Ling, a signature feature of Hakkasan, reflecting the old-school decadence of Chinoiserie.
“It is an honor to take the helm of Hakkasan San Francisco, one of the city’s most vibrant culinary destinations to see and be seen,” said Chen. “As General Manager, I am eager to continue providing an elevated guest experience hallmarked by impeccable service, award-winning cuisine, and an outstanding beverage program.”
Chen’s noteworthy credentials include tenures at some of the Bay Area’s premier restaurants, including Tarmarine in Palo Alto, Bong Su, and the Michelin-starred Spruce in San Francisco. Most recently, Chen served as assistant general manager of Hakkasan San Francisco, supervising three assistant restaurant managers, developing and executing intensive employee training, as well as expanding upon and adapting Hakkasan’s corporate service standards to the San Francisco market. As general manager, Chen will continue to maintain strong communication between the kitchen, staff, and loyal patrons of Hakkasan San Francisco.
Hakkasan San Francisco is open Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. for lunch and 5:30 p.m. for dinner. The main entrance of the restaurant is conveniently located on the corner of Kearny and Market streets, and guests benefit from a private entrance as well as valet parking on Geary Street.
