Eight Decades of Riesling Explored During Dopff & Irion Vertical Tasting
On October 13th, esteemed members of the press and wine trade gathered at Riverpark Restaurant in NYC to taste through eight vintages from the cellars of the iconic Alsatian producer, Chateau de Riquewihr Dopff & Irion. During the event, guests sampled Rieslings from the Les Murailles vineyard in Riquewihr, one for each decade that the winery has been in operation: 1945, 1953, 1969, 1976, 1989, 1992, 2001, 2010. The tasting was led by the Dopff & Irion’s CEO Frédéric Raynaud and Jeff Taylor, Wine Director at Felidia in NYC. All wines were poured into Sophienwald glasses, fine quality stemware from Austria.
Dopff & Irion was founded in 1945 by René Dopff and Madame Irion following the Second World War. Since then, the winery has been a pillar of the Alsatian wine community, consistently garnering praise for its world-class wines and pioneering spirit in the region. The October 13th tasting opened a window to the history of the Chateau and provided attendees with a glimpse of what is yet to come.
Representatives from the brand’s U.S. importer, Dreyfus, Ashby & Co. and its New York distributor, Lauber Imports, Ltd., were also in attendance. Following the tasting, guests enjoyed a three-course lunch prepared by the restaurant and paired with the winery’s current releases:
