Cousins Subs® Make It Better Day Launches
Major Partnership with Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation
MILWAUKEE (June 15, 2015) – In honor of the great Coach Vince Lombardi’s birthday, on June 11, Cousins Subs® donated more than 500 free lunches to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation (VLCF). The Foundation distributed the lunches to cancer patients, their families and caregivers at all Aurora Cancer Care Centers, which include 13 Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinics, throughout eastern Wisconsin.
Cousins Subs Make It Better Day kicked off a larger partnership between Cousins Subs and the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation. Cousins has selected the Foundation as part of its first-ever month of giving promotion. Throughout the month of September, a percentage of combo meal proceeds from all Wisconsin-based Cousins Subs locations will benefit the charity. The Cousins Subs Make It Better Foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to funding local organizations that address health and wellness, hunger and youth education, will also contribute to the cause with a total donation of $50,000 going to VLCF.
“As an organization that raises funds to beat cancer, we see many of our friends, neighbors and colleagues battling this tough disease,” said Erin Hareng, Executive Director of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation. “Cousins Subs offer to help make their day a little less stressful is heartwarming.”
The Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation has a more than 30 year relationship with Aurora Cancer Care with a shared commitment to providing exceptional local cancer care. There are 22 Aurora Cancer Care Centers, which include 13 Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinics. Each is dedicated to providing superior treatment close-to-home. Donations by the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation enhance Aurora Cancer Care programs and support locally-led, patient-centered cancer research.
“The work of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation has been monumental in the effort to fight cancer,” said Christine Specht, President and CEO of Cousins Subs. “As a Wisconsin-based company that is deeply invested in the communities we serve, we feel it is our responsibility to provide support to those experiencing hardship. By distributing lunches at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinics, we hope to create smiles and a better day for those impacted.”

About Cousins Subs
Cousins Subs® and its franchisees operate more than 110 sub sandwich shops in three states, with bold expansion plans. The first Cousins Subs was established in Milwaukee in 1972 by Bill Specht and his cousin. Their dream was to bring East Coast-style sub sandwiches to Milwaukee – with their own deli fresh touch. They started with their bread, developing a secret recipe with the perfect taste and crunch. That bread is the cornerstone of the Cousins Subs slogan, “Better Bread. Better Subs.” The original recipe is still closely followed at every Cousins Subs restaurant, where each sandwich is made to order using freshly sliced deli meats, cheeses, and vegetables – and the bread is baked fresh each day. Forty-two years later and still family owned, Cousins Subs employees and franchisees are driven by their mission to “Make It a Better Day” in all they do. In 2013, the brand proudly announced the establishment of the Make It Better Foundation, dedicated to funding causes that address health and wellness, hunger and youth education in the communities that Cousins Subs serves.
