Stir-fry chain, Christian Hope Project present check to family
As the family of Joseph Wilcox prepares to say its final goodbyes to a life lost bravely, Las Vegans lost no time heeding the call to action, raising $10,000 through a community-wide fundraiser at the Genghis Grill restaurant in Henderson this week.
The Asian stir-fry bistro, along with the Christian Hope Project, hosted the fundraiser on Wednesday to help the family of Wilcox, who died while attempting to stop a shooting at a Las Vegas Walmart on June 8. Genghis Grill donated 100 percent of its sales on Wednesday, including gift certificates purchased.
“This could not have been possible without the help of the Christian Hope Project and the compassion of this community. It was truly inspiring to see the flood of generosity. Everyone was so eager to show their appreciation for Mr. Wilcox and his family,” said William Rodriguez, franchise owner of the Genghis Grill in Henderson. “We know there is nothing we can do to change the tragic course of events, but we wanted to do what we could to let the Wilcox family know they are in our thoughts and prayers during this painful time.”
Wilcox’s funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at Palm Downtown Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., in Las Vegas. The service is open to the public.
