WHAT:

The Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada unveiled their 2015 chef lineup for this year’s Dessert Before Dinner gala. The list includes 11 Las Vegas-based chefs representing numerous Southern Nevada hotel resorts and award-winning restaurants. They will be competing at the Sept. 26 gala to create the ultimate cookie concoction for the nearly 1,000 community leaders expected to attend who will experience the desserts before dinner is served. This year, the selected cookie that is to serve as the basis of the chef’s inspiration will be the Lemonades, a shortbread, lemon-flavored cookie.

This week also marks the organization’s volunteer kickoff. Currently with more than 4,700 Girl Scouts and 2,000 volunteers, Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada’s goal is to grow participation to 20,000 girls and 9,000 adults by 2025. The Girl Scouts Open House for new volunteers will take place Aug. 18, 19 and 20 at the Girl Scouts Leadership Center on Harris Ave. For more information regarding volunteering or to purchase tickets, please call Chefs, Honorees Announced for Girl Scouts’ 2015 Dessert Before Dinner Gala(702) 385-3677 or visit www.GirlScoutsNV.org.

WHY:

Now established as one of the city’s most exciting fundraising events, Dessert Before Dinner brings area chefs together to create the ultimate confection incorporating one chosen signature Girl Scout cookie. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Caesars Palace. In addition to the chefs’ competition, an array of the city’s most high-profile women will be honored for their contributions to the Girl Scouts, as well as the community. They will also receive select badges based on their talent and achievements.

Gala’s proceeds will continue to lay the foundation for all girls in Southern Nevada to make their dreams come true. In addition to funding scholarships, proceeds enable the organization to reach girls in all demographics and areas of the community as well as expanding upon current programming such as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), social values and financial literacy. Most importantly, support for Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada helps encourage girls to embrace imaginative and innovative approaches to everything they do—with the goal of creating a better world for all.
