Chef Robert Wiedmaier’s Marcel’s Earns its Third Consecutive
Semifinalist Nod for Outstanding Service from The James Beard Foundation
On Wednesday, February 17, 2016, The James Beard Foundation released its highly anticipated list of semifinalists; and out of more than 20,000 submissions, Marcel’s by chef Robert Wiedmaier in Washington, DC once again, for three consecutive years, earned a nod for Outstanding Service.
Since opening in 1999, Marcel’s has reigned at the zenith of fine dining in Washington through its elegant Franco-Flemish cuisine, fine wines and unparalleled service. Wiedmaier and his loyal team have not only earned yearly James Beard Award semifinalist nods for Outstanding Service since 2014, but have swept regional/national Zagat surveys, landed spots on OpenTable’s nationwide rankings and maintained a “AAA” Four-Diamond Restaurant designation.
“It’s an honor to receive such recognition for our service as it is one of the cornerstones of our program that we strive to perfect each and every day,” says Wiedmaier. “Achieving that level of service wouldn’t be possible without my dedicated, core team on the floor – our captains, sommeliers and Maître d’ – who have been with Marcel’s for more than 16 years.”
Wiedmaier has come full circle from his days of attending culinary school in The Netherlands. Today, he owns ten successful restaurants in the DC metro area, which reflect his heritage, capturing Flemish flavors with classic French techniques and contemporary American flair.
