Cameron Mitchell Restaurants Hires First Director of Design and Architecture

Randy Roberty has joined Cameron Mitchell Restaurants (CMR) in Columbus, OH as the company’s first Director of Design and Architecture.  In his new position, Roberty will be involved in the architecture and design of all CMR projects, including those for its national Ocean Prime brand. His position is ideally timed to CMR’s expansive growth, with their first Ocean Prime location opening in Las Vegas and a new The Pearl restaurant opening in the Water Street development in Tampa, both in spring 2023, as well as several new specialty concepts in Columbus, OH.

In his new position, Roberty will support the construction and development teams, oversee architecture and design consultants, assist with site selections for new projects, streamline processes, and handle some restaurant designs in-house.

Roberty brings deep experience to his new role.  He spent nearly two decades working within the architecture and design industry at Design Collective, based in Columbus, OH.  As the director of their Hospitality Studio, he worked on a diverse selection of project types and scales for hotels, restaurants, bars, country clubs, and a broad range of retail/multi-use properties.  This experience allows him to tailor innovative solutions to each unique project challenge.  Roberty is a forward thinker who researches new trends and technologies to enhance the design of every project with which he is involved.

Roberty has run architectural projects ranging from a few hundred to $100 million dollars during his career. This variation of scale allows him to quickly adapt to unique project conditions while managing consultants, process, architectural drawings, and design. He first worked with CMR while at Design Collective helping to reimagine their Cap City Dublin location.  He then worked with the company on various projects for their specialty concepts and Rusty Bucket brand.

“Cap City Dublin was one of my favorite projects.  The brand has a loyal following, so we wanted to reimagine it, while honoring what people love and what worked well,” said Roberty.

As the restaurant industry rebounds from the pandemic and CMR is poised for significant growth, Roberty believes that experiential design is critical to success.  “Any experience outside your home boils down to hospitality.  Now that you can order pretty much anything to your house, what experience will get you to leave?” He wants to help CMR create experiences in their restaurant locations that will excite and inspire people to leave their homes and dine out.

Randy received a BS in Architecture from Bowling Green State University and Master of Architecture from The Ohio State University. He’s a licensed architect and active member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).

Outside the office, Randy spends most of his time with his wife, April, and their sons, Aiden and Gavin.
