From June 1st-10th, the world’s culinary community is coming together to support (RED) and the fight against AIDS.
Led by chef Mario Batali and master meat purveyor, Pat LaFrieda, (RED) is calling the culinary community – from Michelin-starred restaurants, independent local restaurant or chains, bars, food trucks and everything in between – to turn (RED) and help raise awareness and money to #86AIDS.
Whether food and drink establishments create a (RED)-inspired menu item, a special (RED) cocktail, or simply make a donation to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, there are many simple, easy ways to get involved and help fight AIDS. Full details can be found at www.eatdrinkred.org.
“June is a timely reminder of one of the most destructive pandemics of our time – HIV/AIDS. This June, to mark the month during which AIDS was first discovered in 1981, Mario Batali and I are joining forces with (RED), and we’re inviting food and drink establishments around the world to do the same. As an extra incentive, I’m offering US-based participating restaurants 50% off of three select cuts of meats,” says Pat LaFrieda, CEO of Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors.
Adds Mario Batali, “Anyone who has ever worked in a kitchen knows that sum of our efforts far exceeds what we can do individually. We can only win the AIDS fight by coordinating our actions, and that’s what EAT (RED). DRINK (RED). SAVE LIVES is all about. From June 1-June 10, I’m turning all of my restaurants (RED), and I urge fellow culinarians to do the same so we can raise awareness and money to help begin the end of AIDS. Just imagine the collective impact the culinary world can make if we work together to #86AIDS.”
(BELVEDERE)RED is leading the charge on (RED) inspired cocktails, created by Belvedere Global Head of Mixology, Claire Smith, exclusively for bars and restaurants supporting EAT (RED). DRINK (RED). SAVE LIVES.
Entering its third year of partnership, Belvedere Vodka is excited to continue to participate in this exceptional campaign. Since beginning its partnership in 2011, contributions from the sale of (BELVEDERE)RED have provided funding for more than 4.5 million days of life-saving HIV/AIDS medicine.
The Goal: #86AIDS
The term ’86’ is the food industry term used to indicate that an item on the menu is gone. It’s not available on the menu anymore. It’s nixed. And that’s what we want to see happen with AIDS. It’s time to begin the end of AIDS. And we can do this. The world is at a pivotal moment in the fight against AIDS, and the opportunity to help deliver an AIDS FREE GENERATION is one which can become a reality in our lifetime. Every day 700 babies are born with HIV. (RED)’s mission is to help get that number close to zero. It’s not a question of can we, but will we?
To date, (RED) has generated more than $250 million dollars for the Global Fund to fight AIDS, to support HIV/AIDS grants in Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania and Zambia. 100 percent of that money goes to work on the ground – no overhead is taken. Global Fund grants that (RED) supports have impacted more than 40 million people with prevention, treatment, counseling, HIV testing and care services.
