Built Inc. Unveils Ivory on Sunset at the Mondrian Los Angeles
A new restaurant inspired by the glamour of Hollywood’s Golden Age has opened at the Mondrian Los Angeles, under the design direction of John Sofio, the Principal of the award-winning design/build firm, Built Inc. With a portfolio that includes L.A.’s most popular venues, including The Nice Guy, Bootsy Bellows and Blind Dragon, Sofio was called on to renovate and transform the interior of the Mondrian’s Herringbone Restaurant into something spectacular.
To evoke the feel of a distinguished gentleman’s home and celebrate the style central to Old Hollywood, Sofio collaborated with celebrity interior designer Brigette Romanek. At the bar, a repurposed 200 year old Amish barn oak wood wall is lined with delicate bronze and gold mirror pieces, while the dining rooms allure with rich redwood, a vast view of Sunset Boulevard, and vintage artwork. The outdoor patio and garden create a unique indoor/outdoor dining experience, with a bar that is both half inside and half outside, four banquettes, lush trees and a low awning and vintage pots. Custom furniture pieces were designed by Sofio for the restaurant that he will be manufacturing for consumer and trade sale.
