BAR SPREZZATURA OPENS AT KIMPTON HOTEL THETA, BRINGING THE ITALIAN RIVIERA TO MIDTOWN MANHATTAN

Bar Sprezzatura, a bi-level rooftop bar and restaurant inspired by the relaxed elegance of Coastal Italy, in partnership with TableOne Hospitality, opens its doors at Kimpton Hotel Theta. Serving as Bar Sprezzatura’s first location on the East Coast, with its original acclaimed outpost in San Francisco, the 16th– and 15th-floor enclave aims to bring the effervescence of the Italian Riviera to Midtown Manhattan with a welcoming atmosphere, signature spritzes, and an elevated dining experience.

“We are thrilled to share our vision of hospitality and build upon the legacy of Bar Sprezzatura that we have established thus far with our San Francisco location – this is just the beginning,” says Phil Collins, TableOne Hospitality’s Director of Beverage. “As we continue to evolve, we are discovering synergies between the two destinations with select cocktails and dishes appearing across both menus while introducing new programming that reflects the dynamic nature of Manhattan melded with the Italian Riviera.”

A MENU REMINISCENT OF COASTAL ITALY

Cin Cin! Guests will be delighted by a robust beverage program at Bar Sprezzatura, offering sips ranging from martinis and amaro to Italian spirits curated by both Collins and Carlo Splendorini, award-winning Partner and Mixologist who implemented the bar program initially at the famous San Francisco outpost. Splendorini has had a passion for hospitality since an early age, has held roles at notable restaurants like MICHAEL MINA San Francisco, co-founded San Francisco’s Modernist Private Social Club and has won awards such as Zagat’s 30 under 30 and The Chronicle’s Bar Star in 2011. As a nod to the bar and restaurant’s location in the epicenter of the martini movement, the menu features a dedicated martini section, incorporating Italian flavors such as parmesan washed Siete Misterioso Mezcal, black truffle vermouth, pepperoncini brine, Isolation Mushroom Gin, pink peppercorn, sun dried tomato, Rosemary Basil Community Vodka and more while paying homage to its home in Manhattan. Italian wines command the menu with bottles sourced from Sardinia, Puglia, Umbria, Campania, Tuscany, Sicily, Valdobbiadene, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, and Franciacorta. Rounding out the beverage selections, guests can expect to see Spritz, Negroni and extensive Amari offerings.

Under the direction of Executive Chef Trevor Kalafus, who has previously helmed kitchens at notable establishments like Casa Lever, Grand Banks, and Jungle Bird, Bar Sprezzatura’s menu draws inspiration from the fresh, coastal flavors of Italy’s Amalfi Coast, featuring signature dishes like gnocchi alla sorrentina with lobster, ravioli alla caprese, and branzino al cartoccio. A mainstay of the establishment’s offerings includes fresh, pristine seafood crudo and snacks or stuzzichini such as “caprese” crostino, prosciutto di Parma e melone, and broiled artichokes gratinati. The menu also offers a few fan favorites from the San Francisco location, including the option to order the Bar Sprezzatura Tower, which features five selections from the stuzzichini portion of the menu.

AN APPROACHABLE YET ELEGANT MEDITERRANEAN-INSPIRED DESIGN

Designed by CRÈME, Bar Sprezzatura’s rooftop is inspired by the Italian Riviera and Amalfi Coast, featuring a vibrant palette of bright blues and oranges, intricate mosaic-tiled tables, plush seating, and breezeblock screens that create a lively and inviting atmosphere reminiscent of Mediterranean charm. The 16th floor includes three distinct lounge areas: the Canopy Lounge with a cabana-like setting, the Greenhouse Lounge exuding relaxed elegance, and the Outdoor Terrace with a bright and refreshing ambiance. On the 15th floor, guests will find a more intimate setting with rich colors, walls adorned with stunning Italian frescoes and murals, and hanging plants that add a touch of natural elegance. As guests arrive through 48th Street, the unassuming corridor honors New York’s grit with a moody ambiance and custom-painted mural of the Amalfi Coast in the style of Napoli Street Art by notable NYC-based artist, Oscar Lett, before transporting guests to the bright and airy oasis that is Bar Sprezzatura.

“We are elated to introduce an elevated dining experience, open year-round, to both our guests and the local community,” says Mark Pandaleon, general manager of Kimpton Hotel Theta. “We strive to deliver unparalleled experiences, and this new venture allows our talented team to shine through exceptional hospitality and innovative culinary offerings. The opening of Bar Sprezzatura marks a transformational milestone, further establishing Kimpton Hotel Theta as a must-visit destination and unexpected escape.”
