Heroic Wine Bar Opens in Downtown Santa Monica on February 08, 2019 Featuring Italian Cuisine from Executive Chef Barbara Pollastrini and An Impressive Wine Selection from Italy and California
Adam Fleischman, creator of Umami Burger, 800 Degrees, Cold Cocked Coffee Co., and his famous eating partner, Jeffrey Merrihue, founder of XtremeFoodies.com, proudly announce the opening of Heroic Wine Bar, an intimate new Italian kitchen and wine room located next to their recently opened Heroic Deli in downtown Santa Monica, on Friday, February 8, 2019. Heroic Wine Bar offers a unique gastronomic and oenological experience of Italian fare and carefully selected high-quality wines from California and Italy all rated 90+ points as well as a premium wine list featuring only wines ranked 95 and above. The foodie dream team have partnered with award-winning Executive Chef Barbara Pollastrini, whose deep traditional skills are rooted in Roman gastronomy and combined with a Modern California approach that results in an innovative “New Italian Cuisine.”
Barbara’s signature dish is rightfully called the “Santa BARBARA” featuring house-made pasta in a heavenly trio of seafood: butter made from live uni, crab, and caviar all sourced from Santa Barbara. Other signature dishes include: Tomato Soup Souffle; Seared Steak Tartare; Giant Eggplant Parmigiana Ravioli; Cioppino Stew of calamari, octopus, clams, mussels, fresh tomato, garlic and parsley; Cauliflower Rib-Eye with roasted tomato, crunchy garbanzo beans, olives, capers and garlic, and Pork loin with Porcini.
The wine list features reasonably priced wines and bubbly from both California and Italy by the glass, half bottle and bottles priced at $150.00 each. The reserve wine list features only wines ranked 95+ points.
Heroic was designed by award-winning Los Angeles hospitality designer Alexis Readinger of Preen Inc. The space aims to inspire conversation with a 16-foot bowtie communal table for 16 people at its epicenter. The design is reminiscent of a secret Roman garden paying homage to the Roman gods. Wallpapered black and white drawings of trees line the walls. Leather booths tucked into the front windows provide guests with an even more intimate setting. The indigo ceiling is hand muraled with celestial representations of the zodiac and the stars. A floor-to-ceiling metal panel in gold punctured with repeated lightning bolt patterns conceals the back kitchen and provides a backdrop for the live foliage overhead.
Overlooking the wine tasting and dining room is the Upstairs, the private “Segreta” dining room overlooks the wine tasting and dining room and features walnut cabinets surrounding a dining table for 12. The “Segrata” Room will feature exclusive dining experiences that will be announced later this spring.
The name Heroic is suggestive of both the signature “Hero” sandwiches served on the Deli side as well as the “Heroic” ambitions of the kitchen on the wine bar side.
About Barbara Pollastrini
Chef Barbara studied at the Cordon Blue. Her passion for cooking is only surpassed by her love of art which she exhibits in the presentation of all her dishes. Barbara has won numerous awards as food stylist for blockbusters including ” “He’s Just Not That Into You”, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, “The Muppets” and HBO’s LUCK starring Dustin Hoffman, and was a contestant on the Food Network’s “Cutthroat Kitchen.”
