Founding Partner Chef Matt Gordon along with Founding Partner General Manager Scott Watkins have created a widely popular restaurant in San Diego’s North Park community, which serves new American comfort food with “comfort service.” Urban Solace can’t be anything but eclectic by the nature of the establishment along with its downtown urban vibe. Somehow, Gordon and Watkins have hired and trained a staff that is incomparable in teamwork and product knowledge.
Chef Partner Matt Gordon entices patrons with his creative menu of traditional food served with a twist created by Gordon’s palate , including original favorites, such as Duckaroni (Mac n’ Cheese with Blue Cheese, Duck Confit, Roasted Garlic, Arugula, Scallion); My Favorite, “ Not Your Momma’s Meatloaf” (Ground Lamb, Figs. Pine Nuts, Feta Cheese, Fig Jus over Sweet Potato mashed, their Famous Warm Cheese Biscuits with Orange-Honey Butter.
Lunch is no different at Urban Solace . Where else do you find items like the AAA Sandwich (apple, almond and albacore tuna salad) featuring lemon tarragon mayonnaise on egg bread with a side of Sweet Potato Fresh Fries ($9), as well as the Half Sandwich/Soup/Salad combination with either pastrami, chicken salad or tuna salad sandwich, a house salad and cup of soup ($9.50). On Sunday morning the restaurant’s now-famed Bluegrass Brunch features the Portabello Mushroom Benedict and Skillet Shrimp and Chili Grit Cake.
Dinner selections, Urban Solace is introducing a BBQ’d Alaskan Red Salmon served alongside Sweet Corn Succotash, Roasted Red Potato and Peppery Arugula. The restaurant also created another of my ALL TIME FAVORITES the Slow Cooked Niman Ranch Pork Belly served in Corn/Fennel/Spicy Sausage Broth with sausage from the Knight Salumi Co. and complemented by Roasted Red Potato ($16.25). The flavor notes of this dish played like a symphony in my mouth.
Always looking to entice and quench the thirsts of its guests, Urban Solace’s Chief Mixologist Summer Rose has created cocktail menu featuring multiple palate options.
“In addition to our large selection of wine and beers, we wanted to provide our guests with something unique to sip before or during their meals,” said Chef Matt Gordon. “Urban Solace’s ‘Lucky 13’ cocktail line-up features everything from twists on classic favorites to original creations.”
cocktails are priced between $7 and $10, features favorite drinks named after founding partners Chef Matt Gordon (The Chef-ferson – Fernet Branca, Ginger Ale, Squeeze of Lime, Served on the Rocks) and General Manager Scott Watkins (The Scott – Whiskey, Vya Sweet Vermouth, Angostra Bitters, Orange Twist & Cherry, Served on the Rocks). Traditional favorites with an Urban twist include Solace Sangria, Mojito Maker, Pink Lemonade, Cucumber Mint Martini and Gin & Juice.
